Jacksonville State University Names Dr. Andrea Porter Associate Vice Provost of Curriculum and Academic Partnerships

Jacksonville, AL (08/06/2024) — Jacksonville State University (Jax State) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Andrea Porter as the new Associate Vice Provost of Curriculum and Academic Partnerships. In addition to her new role, Dr. Porter will serve as the Director of Dual Enrollment. With thirteen years of administrative experience and leadership on the national level, Dr. Porter brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new position.

Currently an associate professor of English and Head of the English Department at Jax State, Dr. Porter has also held the position of Graduate Director for two years and served as a graduate program coordinator for seven years. Her extensive experience includes significant contributions to dual enrollment programs, from serving as the English Department's dual enrollment liaison to conducting scholarly work on the subject. Dr. Porter was recently honored with the Best in Section Award by the College English Association for her paper on "Dual Enrollment and the Transformation of College English."

Dr. Porter expressed her enthusiasm for the new role: "This position incorporates everything I have done in my professional and volunteer careers, and I am ready to work with these new areas to help advance and grow Jax State."

Vice Provost of Academic Affairs Staci Stone commented on Dr. Porter's appointment, saying, "We are excited to see what Dr. Porter will achieve in this new role, as she works closely with the registrar and others on curriculum and helps the dual enrollment team support students and expand Jax State's dual enrollment program, which currently enrolls over 1100 students from about thirty high schools in the region."

Dr. Porter holds a doctoral degree from The University of Alabama, a master's degree from Mississippi State University, and a bachelor's degree from the University of North Alabama. She has been an integral part of the Jax State community since 2005 and began her new role on August 1, 2024.
