Jax State, Gadsden State Sign Transfer Pathway Agreement for Technical Degree Graduates

New partnership creates seamless path from workforce-focused associate degrees to bachelor's completion

Jacksonville, AL (07/30/2026) — Jacksonville State University and Gadsden State Community College have signed a transfer pathway agreement designed to help graduates of workforce-focused associate degree programs continue their education and earn a bachelor's degree.

The agreement establishes a streamlined transfer pathway for students who complete one of 28 Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree programs at Gadsden State and wish to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Studies at Jax State. The partnership allows eligible students to transfer both their general education coursework and applicable technical specialty credits, creating an efficient path toward bachelor's degree completion.

"Jax State and Gadsden State share a commitment to creating opportunities for students, and this partnership expands those opportunities," said Jax State President Dr. Don C. Killingsworth, Jr. "Together, we have created what we believe is a first-of-its-kind pathway in Alabama, ensuring that every eligible Gadsden State graduate, regardless of their field of study, has a seamless pathway to continue their education and earn a bachelor's degree at Jax State. That's a win for students, our institutions and the workforce needs of our region."

The pathway includes programs spanning healthcare, engineering technologies, manufacturing, business, public service, information technology and other high-demand workforce fields. Students completing degrees in areas such as emergency medical services, industrial automation, mechatronics, radiography, child development, computer science technology and precision machining will be among those eligible to continue their education through the agreement.

In addition to transferring technical specialty coursework within university guidelines, students will receive credit for applicable general education courses through Alabama Transfers, helping reduce duplication and accelerate progress toward a bachelor's degree. Each student's transcript will be evaluated individually to maximize transferable credit.

The agreement also commits both institutions to working collaboratively to educate students about the new pathway and coordinate outreach opportunities for participating academic programs.
