Jax State ROTC Cadet Collin Benoit shines in annual Army 10-Miler marathon
It was the longest race 19-year-old Collin Benoit had ever run. It was also one of the largest races in the world. On October 13, Benoit, a cadet in the Jax State ROTC, was among the estimated 28,000 runners participating in the 40th annual Army Ten-Miler (ATM) at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The ATM starts and finishes at the Pentagon with a course that travels through Washington and is the third-largest 10-mile road race in the world. Cadet Benoit finished in the top 0.01 percent at number #407, completing the race in 1 hour and 7 minutes.

Juggling College and Coaching: Jax State Senior Inspires as Head Volleyball Coach
Most college students wait until after graduation to start their careers. But experience, a well-earned reputation for leadership and an accomplished resume put Haleigh Molock ahead of the game. Molock is a Jacksonville State University (Jax State) senior, finishing her bachelor's degree in social studies and secondary education. She's also the head volleyball coach for Faith Christian School of Anniston.

The Harris Triplets: Continuing a Family Legacy Within the Marching Southerners
After 31 years with the Marching Southerners, director Ken Bodiford thought he'd seen it all - until he met three heirs to a family legacy: the Harris triplets, Dawson, Ethan, and Kendall. Freshmen with the Marching Southerners and from Gadsden, Dawson and Ethan play brass instruments while Kendall dances with the Ballerinas. "They're easy to distinguish physically since they aren't identical," Bodiford said, "but they all share a common spirit of dedication and positivity that has greatly enriched our program."

Honors Program participates in annual Alabama Coastal Cleanup
On September 21, members of the Jacksonville State University (Jax State) Honors Program collected more than 500 pounds of garbage from the Jacksonville creek in just two hours. The 11 students were participating in the annual Alabama Coastal Cleanup, during which volunteer groups picked up litter scattered across Alabama's waterways and beaches.

Chanticleer Wins Six Pinnacle Awards at Annual College Media Association Conference
The Chanticleer, Jacksonville State University's student newspaper, was recognized during the annual College Media Association's (CMA) conference by winning six Pinnacle Awards, including Website of the Year (standalone). According to the CMA, the Pinnacle Awards honor "the best college media organizations and individual work." According to the CMA, the Website of the Year award "recognizes excellence in overall coverage, content and content delivery, design, reporting, writing and editing, multimedia, special projects, cross-platform integration, service to the campus community and interactivity."

Jacksonville State University's IAEM Student Chapter Named Student Chapter of the Year
Jacksonville State University's (Jax State) Student Chapter of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) has been awarded the prestigious "Student Chapter of the Year" Award in the 2024 IAEM Awards Competition. This honor recognizes the chapter's commitment to advancing the field of emergency management through student-led activities and academic excellence. The award will be formally presented on November 20 at the President's Banquet and Awards Ceremony, part of the 72nd IAEM Annual Conference & EMEX in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Jacksonville State University Announces 2024 Honors Scholarship Recipients
Jacksonville State University (Jax State) is proud to announce the recipients of its prestigious 2024 Honors Scholarships. This highly competitive scholarship is awarded to only eight outstanding high school seniors annually, recognizing their exceptional academic achievements, leadership, and community service. To qualify for the Honors Scholarship, applicants must have a minimum ACT score of 30, a 3.75 GPA, and demonstrated leadership and service in their schools and communities. Those selected for the scholarship receive full tuition, housing, a meal plan, and books for their time at Jax State.

Omicron Delta Kappa Celebrates New Members
Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, welcomed 1,971 new initiates from 78 universities during April 2022. Students initiated into the Society must be sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate/professional students in the top 35% of their class, demonstrate leadership experience in at least one of the five pillars, and embrace the ODK ideals. Fewer than five percent of students on a campus are invited to join each year.
