Jax State Lowers Dual Enrollment Tuition, Elevates Opportunities for High School Students
Jacksonville, AL (05/27/2025) — Jacksonville State University is making it more affordable than ever for high school students to get a head start on college. The Board of Trustees has approved that beginning in Fall 2025, Jax State will reduce its Dual Enrollment tuition rate to just $33 per credit hour, making a standard three-hour course just $99. This is a major drop from the current rate of $504 per course.
"At Jax State, we are committed to providing access to a high-quality education and ensuring our students have the resources they need to succeed," said Dr. Don C. Killingsworth, Jr., President of Jacksonville State University. "This new tuition rate expands opportunities for high school students across Alabama and reflects our continued investment in their academic success and future goals."
Jax State's new rate will make it one of the most affordable Dual Enrollment programs in the state, further demonstrating the University's commitment to being The Friendliest Campus in the South. Dual Enrollment Students at Jax State pay no fees, just tuition and books.
But affordability is just part of the story. Jax State offers both in-person and online dual enrollment options, allowing students to experience college classrooms firsthand. The university also places no limit on the number of courses students may take at the reduced rate.
Dual Enrollment students have access to a full suite of university resources - including academic advising, tutoring, student success coaching, and even campus amenities like the Houston Cole Library. Students also receive free admission to home sporting events and can participate in microcredential programs through Jax MIX. In fact, the first-ever Jax MIX microcredential was awarded to a Dual Enrollment student.
"Jax State is committed to offering not only an affordable education but also a transformative one," said Dr. Christie Shelton, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. "Our student-success oriented faculty are dedicated to supporting students at every step, and we want them to feel welcomed, challenged, and prepared from the very beginning."
