Jax State to Host Active Shooter Training on April 11
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Jacksonville, AL (04/08/2024) — JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Jacksonville State University will host a large-scale emergency training exercise on April 11 at 9:00 am. The community will notice activity at Pete Mathews Coliseum and the JSU South Complex throughout the morning, including the presence of first responders, as students practice responding to an active shooter event.
Two years in the making, the Interprofessional Education Event is bringing together students from various departments and programs throughout campus to respond to a pre-planned emergency simulation designed by faculty and staff. Students in nursing, social work, emergency management and athletic training will respond to a scenario that uses the acting talents of the university's theatre students.
The University Police Department, Jacksonville Police Department, Jacksonville Fire Department and Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency will be on site. The community should not be alarmed to see the presence of these first responders at the JSU South Complex and Pete Mathews Coliseums that morning. For questions or concerns, please call campus police at 256-782-5050.
The media is welcome to cover the event. Reporters should arrive at Pete Mathews Coliseum by 8:30 am and report to the media sign-in table. For media questions, contact Kelli Holmes at 205-401-5491 or kjholmes@jsu.edu.
