JSU has selected its 2020 Gamecock Orientation (GO!) team, an outstanding group of student leaders dedicated to helping incoming students find their place on campus.

Music students in the Jacksonville Opera Theatre at Jacksonville State University have hit the road to share their love of musical theatre with elementary and middle school students.

Nearly 100 outstanding freshman have been named to JSU's prestigious leadership program for new students, the Freshman Forum.

The David L. Walters Department of Music presented the 11th annual Tubaween concert on Oct. 29. The concert featured the JSU Tuba Euphonium Ensemble and the JSU ENCORE! show choir. The Halloween-themed program included "Witch Doctor," "Ways to be Wicked" and "Thriller," among other popular songs. Instrumental selections included "Halloween Suite," featuring music from "Nightmare on Elm Street" and the Michael Myer's Theme. The JSU Steel Band also gave a special performance to close out the show with Dr. Tony McCutchen's arrangement of "Black Magic Woman."

Twenty-eight JSU students were inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) on Oct. 10. Chartered at JSU in 2014, NSCS recognizes students' academic achievements and provides opportunities for members to develop leadership skills.

The JSU Department of Music has selected the recipients of the 2019 Music Legacy Scholarships. Established by music faculty in 2002, the Music Legacy Scholarship program works to strengthen and continue the long tradition of musical excellence at the university. The award recognizes outstanding music students who had a parent or close relative attend JSU and the program is funded by an annual faculty recital.

Courtney Williams, a nutrition major from Leesburg, Ala., was named second runner-up in the 2019 Miss JSU Pageant on January 11, 2019.

Sports management major Darby Angle was crowned Miss JSU on January 11, 2019. The Marching Ballerina demonstrated her range as a dancer during the pageant, delighting the audience with a humorous and high-energy tap route to Dolly Parton's "9 to 5," winning the talent portion of the competition. Her social impact initiative was "Precious As Rubies," a personal platform to help women who have gone through sexual violence, specifically on their college campuses, realize their true value and purpose. She represented the university in the Miss Alabama Pageant in June 2019.

Taylor Snider, a nursing major from Hueytown, Ala., was named first runner-up in the 2019 Miss JSU Pageant on January 11, 2019. She also won the Lifestyle and Fitness portion of the competition.

Stone Alexander of Centre, Ala. was elected Homecoming King 2018 by his peers at Jacksonville State University on Sept. 25, 2018. He was honored during halftime at the Homecoming football game on Sept. 29.

Madison Burell of Jacksonville, Ala. was elected Homecoming Queen 2018 by her peers at Jacksonville State University on Sept. 25, 2018. She was honored during halftime at the Homecoming football game on Sept. 29.

Kathleen Seibert has been elected Vice President of Public Relations for Jacksonville State University's Student Government Association.

Desmond Thomas has been elected 2019-2020 Vice President of Student Activities at Jacksonville State University for the second year in a row.
